A Greener Vaughan: Preserving Nature, Advancing Sustainability.

Stewardship for the Next Generation

For Gino Rosati, protecting the environment isn’t just about preserving the past; it’s about building a sustainable future. As a previous member of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and a champion of Regional sustainability, Gino understands that our parks, trails, and transit systems are the green lungs of our city. He is focused on the practical execution of massive environmental transformations, ensuring that Vaughan remains a place where nature and growth coexist.

Transforming Our Landscape: The North Maple Regional Park (NMRP)

While others focus on the history of the Keele Valley Landfill, Gino Rosati is focused on its future as a 900-acre world-class destination. He is a steadfast supporter of the NMRP Master Plan – guided by the core principles of Restore, Engage and Play – ensuring the project moves from “vision” to “reality.”

  • Beyond the Landfill: Gino is overseeing the complex engineering and ecological restoration required to turn 900 acres into Canada’s premier regional park. This includes the restoration of natural ecosystems, the creation of vast meadowlands, and the development of 10+ years of phased recreation areas.
  • The Family Recreation Area: Gino advocated for the $10 million Provincial investment to accelerate the delivery of the new four-season nature playground, skate trails, and picnic pavilions, and offset the $26 million already committed from the City budget. This is scheduled to open in phases for families beginning with the ice-skating trail in late-2026.
  • A Sanctuary for Wellbeing: Gino believes that green spaces are vital for mental health. By expanding trail networks and passive recreation areas, he is securing a “natural oasis” for all Vaughan residents.

Clean Transit: The YRT Electrification Plan

Environmental protection extends to our roads. Gino has been a key proponent of the York Region Transit Fleet Electrification Plan, moving our region toward a net-zero future.

Backed by a $389 million joint funding partnership between York Region ($177M), the Canada Infrastructure Bank ($136M), and the Federal Zero Emission Transit Fund ($76M), the program replaces traditional diesel buses with modern battery-electric buses (e-buses).

  • The York Region Transit (YRT) electric bus initiative: Each electric bus removes the equivalent of 4,000 cars from the road in terms of annual emissions.
  • 100 Electric Buses and Counting: By the close of 2025, YRT reached 100 operational e-buses supported by 27 charging stations across three regional garages. An additional 50 more slated for arrival in 2026 – moving toward a fully sustainable, zero-emission transit fleet by 2050–2051. .
  • Massive Carbon Reduction: Once the full batch of 180 funded e-buses is deployed, the project will prevent approximately 16,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually. This provides the environmental equivalent of permanently removing 4,000 passenger vehicles from local roads.
Gino is committed to the long-term goal of ensuring our transit is as clean as the air we want to breathe.

Conservation Leadership: The TRCA Partnership

As a previous member on the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Gino supports the oversight needed to protect our watersheds and natural habitats across municipal boundaries.

  • Sustainable Infrastructure: Pushing for green building standards and flood mitigation projects that make Vaughan resilient to a changing climate.
  • Protecting Ravines and Waterways: Ensuring that new developments respect our natural heritage and that our green corridors are protected from urban encroachment.

The Experience to Build a Greener Future

Protecting the environment requires more than just advocacy – it requires the fiscal and legislative experience to manage multi-decade projects like the North Maple Regional Park and the electrification of our transit system. Gino Rosati has the Proven Experience to navigate these complex projects and the Practical Results that demonstrate that a greener Vaughan is within our reach.
