Gino Rosati’s journey began in 1989 as a lone voice advocating for a hospital in Vaughan. Today, that vision has evolved into the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct, a first-of-its-kind hub where medical treatment, long-term care, and physician training come together.

The Decades-Long Battle: From Vision to Reality
Gino Rosati didn’t just support the hospital; he steered it through every challenge, from land procurement to final construction. This foresight protected the lands from commercial development and paved the way for the precinct we see today.
- Fiscal Mastery: Applying his professional banking experience, Gino advocated for funding the land acquisition through City reserves. This “banking smart” approach saved millions in interest costs, and the loan has since been fully repaid – leaving no long-term debt burden on Vaughan taxpayers.
- Promises kept: “I’m still convinced that we don’t have a lot of time if we’re serious about planning for this towns future” said Gino at the beginning of the fight for a hospital. “Throughout my career, I have steered the Vaughan hospital project with a focus on enlightened public funding and proper land use – and I am on record for that!”

Completing the “Campus of Care”: Long-Term Residences
Gino’s steadfast adherence to a multi-phased medical precinct has reached a major milestone with the July 2026 announcement of the Vaughan Long-Term Care (LTC) Village.
- Integrated Senior Living: The new 320-bed LTC Village will be built directly adjacent to the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. This isn’t just a building; it’s a “village life” model offering a complete continuum of care – from independent living to assisted care and specialized memory support.
- Culturally Appropriate Services: As Chair of Community & Health Services, Gino will ensure that these residences offer services tailored to our community’s uniquely diverse heritage, ensuring every future Vaughan senior lives out their life with dignity in the community they helped build.
- A Hub for Innovation: The Campus will also house the York University School of Medicine so students, researchers, and practitioners can work together to advance the frontier of healthcare – it partners well with Canada’s first fully integrated “smart” hospital, representing a “gold standard” for integrated health and education.
- Moving Forward with Experience: Construction starts this Fall, ensuring that by 2028, our seniors will have access to the dignity and care they deserve right here at home.
